I want to share this sweet portrait of “Breeze” I created in the late 1990’s.
This is an example of a simple background scene being created by just using mostly the paper color. A few clumps of Canary Yellow for the flowers, with more indicated by Lemon Yellow scribbles in the background.….and you have a field of yellow flowers. Some grass-shaped squiggles of medium and dark green under Breeze connects her to the scene.
Notice how the yellow surrounding the black edges of Breeze's body really makes her pop out.

Those large yellow slashes in the foreground were done with Prismacolor Art Stix. They are made of the same material as Prismacolor pencil cores, but they are a square stick, about a quarter inch wide. So they leave 1/4 inch wide marks.
INFO FOR ARTISTS: Prismacolor Art Stix have been discontinued. But I still see them for sale online in places like eBay. They are not the same as Prismacolor Nupastels, which look almost identical. Nupastels are a hard pastel.
Prismacolor pencil on Canson Mi-Teintes paper.
12 x 16 inches.
